Introduction

The Uzowihes- often referred to as “UmuUzowihe” – is a prestigious family whose origin is rooted in UmuOkpo Nkwume, Imo state, Nigeria. Each member of this family belongs to the well-known ethnic group known as the “Igbos” which coincidentally is the name of the beloved language we speak on a daily basis. The name “Uzowihe” is a very rare one and means [].

UmuUzowihe is from a family very rich in tradition and culture, very prosperous and earned their prosperity by working hard and intelligently. Our fore fathers first came to America with the intention of seeking better opportunities via exceling in academic endeavors. Their aspiration was that the future generations of Uzowihe would reap the benefits of their tireless efforts and in turn use their resources to continue helping their brothers and sisters back home in Nigeria. The first (pioneer) of UmuUzowihe to come to America was Aloy Nnanna Uzowihe. He came to America in 1965.

Today UmuUzowihe presence has expanded to other areas of the United States including places like Washington DC, California, Texas, Georgia, Maryland and Nevada. Regardless of the geographical location, each member of this family has been working hard to make our forefather’s dream a reality. The 20 university graduates is evidence of this.
